Joao Pedro Stédile is not only a fundamental part of the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement, but also a member of the Brazil Popular Front, which as of late has become Michel Temer’s worst nightmare.

In this interview, by our collaborator Geraldina Colotti, Stédile addresses the current situation in Brazil, and the probable exits to the crisis, including Temer’s fall and the call to direct elections now.

In a manifesto, MST denounces criminalization and violence in the countryside

It was raining in São Paulo when young people from the MST and the Popular Rising of Youth, in chorus, repeated several times: "it is a time of war, it is a time without sun," taking the front of the main stage of the National Fair of Agrarian Reform. The intervention served to launch a manifesto against the criminalization of social movements and against violence in the countryside, which was beautiful by the singer Tico Santa Cruz on the night of Friday, May 5, 2017.

São Paulo Military Police Evicts East Zone Families and Apprehends MTST leader, Guilherme Boulos; MST Repudiates the Violence Against the MTST

Earlier today (January 17, 2017), the São Paulo Military Police showed up at the San Mateo Colonial Occupation and evicted the area, in which 700 families lived.

The first operative of reintegration of positions, overseen by João Doria, had the characteristics of a military operation. Around 6 am, the Military Police showed up with infantry and trucks and advanced on the houses and families that had occupied the lands in the east zone of São Paulo.

But we continue to struggle, because this is the only way to defeat the conservative forces and the coup”.

MST encampment under attack by gunmen in Pará

The attacks began on Monday and three pickup trucks help in the criminal action.

This week, the encampment Hugo Chaves suffered another violent attack of gunmen and from the plantation owner Osvaldo Saldanha. The attacks began last Monday and three trucks help in the criminal action.

The gunslingers set up a barricade in Vila Sororó, populated near the encampment.

Organizations demonstrate in Palestine in support of MST

On Saturday November 12, 2016, about 50 people representing organizations from the Middle East gathered in an act of support and solidarity to the MST in Bethlehem, Palestine.

The organizations rejected the invasion of the Florestan Fernandes National School (ENFF), which took place last November 4th, and the attempted criminalization suffered by the Movement in the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.
